The latest edition of the ShanghaiRanking’s subject ranking, the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), was published on 15 September. The ranking evaluates universities’ research performance across individual academic disciplines. Wrocław Tech was listed in five engineering and technology subjects in the publicly available ranking and placed first in Poland in four of them.

Wrocław Tech results in GRAS 2026

Wrocław Tech results in GRAS 2026
Subject Rank in Poland World rank
Civil Engineering 1 98 (76-100)
Artificial Intelligence 1 191 (151-200)
Materials Science & Engineering  1 223 (201-300)
Instruments Science & Technology 3 (2-5) 237 (201-300)
Electrical & Electronic Engineering  1 356 (301-400)

The table first shows the exact positions available through the paid GRAS Tracker analytical tool, followed in brackets by the ranking ranges presented in the publicly available ranking.

This year’s results are significantly better than a year ago. Wrocław Tech improved its position in all five subjects included in the public ranking, moving into the global top 100 in Civil Engineering, the top 200 in Artificial Intelligence, and the top 400 in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. The number of first-place finishes in Poland within this group increased from three to four.

It is also worth noting that Wrocław University of Science and Technology leads Polish technical universities in terms of the number of first-place positions nationally, jointly with Gdańsk University of Technology. Wrocław Tech is also one of only three Polish technical universities, alongside AGH University of Krakow and Silesian University of Technology, to be ranked in at least five subjects while also having a subject placed among the global top 100.

Wrocław Tech also ranks on the national podium in five further subjects. However, its global positions in these fields are not high enough for the results to be published on the GRAS website and are available only through GRAS Tracker.

“This year’s results confirm that research conducted at Wrocław Tech is becoming increasingly visible in the international scientific community. We are particularly pleased to see Civil Engineering enter the global top 100 and Artificial Intelligence the top 200. These results are also consistent with the priority research areas identified in Wrocław Tech Strategy 2023-2030. This confirms the strength of our research teams and the University’s research potential,” says Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs, Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects covers 57 academic disciplines. Each year, it presents around 20,000 university results across individual subjects, covering approximately 2,000 universities from nearly 100 countries and regions.

Depending on the subject, the ranking uses an appropriate set of nine objective indicators. These include research output and citation impact, publications in leading academic journals, international collaboration, as well as the international standing and achievements of researchers.
