What is the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers?

The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers describe the principles for recruiting researchers that employers should follow in ensuring equal treatment for researchers recruited in Europe.

  • The rules and requirements set out in the documents ensure that values such as transparency of the recruitment process and equal treatment of all candidates are respected. The Code is complementary to the provisions contained in the European Charter for Researchers.
  • Institutions and employers adhering to the principles of the Code and the Charter should openly fulfil their obligation to act in a responsible and respectful manner as well as providing researchers with fair framework conditions conducive to the development of the European Research Area.
  • The principles of the Code and the Charter concern, among other things, the recruitment process, selection of staff, length of service, employment of staff with a doctoral degree, assessment of merit, and recognition of qualifications and mobility experience.
