Perspektywy 2021 Ranking: WUST does well with two of the best degree programmes in the country

Date: 23.06.2021 Category: general news

Our university’s Civil Engineering and Chemical and Process Engineering degree programmes rank best in Poland and WUST becomes third best technical university in the country and Lower Silesia’s best – these are the results we have attained in the Perspektywy Foundation's ranking of higher education institutions for 2021.

In the general ranking, we have reached the sixth position, which means that we are our region’s best university for the thirteenth year in a row. We also remain one of Poland's best technical universities, once again second only to Warsaw University of Technology and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow.

Our university has been ranked sixth in Poland in terms of academic prestige. Also, we rank first in the country for the number of degree programmes delivered in a foreign language with 63 such programmes.

At the same time, the results of the ranking for the best degree programmes have been announced. For the seventh time, Civil Engineering at Wrocław University of Science and Technology took first place. Also, Chemical and Process Engineering received first place.

Dariusz ŁydżbaCivil Engineering is a degree programme in which students acquire skills and knowledge including the development of documentation for design and construction engineering tasks, technology and organisation of construction with respect to all types of works and facilities, work organisation and team leadership in a construction company, or computer techniques and modern technologies in engineering practice.

– The perception of this degree programme by the academic community in the country is, of course, important, but it also means encouragement for us to do further work. Civil Engineering stands out above all by the variety of specialisations offered in the course of second-cycle studies, of which there are currently as many as eleven. There is no other such offering in our country – says Prof. Dariusz Łydżba, Vice-Rector for Cooperation and former Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

- What’s more, its renown is influenced by the strong position of its scientific and teaching staff and the laboratory instrumentation that’s unique in our country. This high position will be maintained as long as we keep up the high standard of education, continuously develop our staff, and invest in laboratories – he adds.

As for the first-cycle studies, students can choose one of three specialisations:

  • Geotechnology and Hydrotechnology;
  • Construction Engineering and Modelling;
  • Civil Engineering.

540 places have been prepared for this year's enrolments for the Civil Engineering degree programme.

Chemical Engineering, which is taught at Wrocław University of Science and Technology in the Chemical and Process Engineering degree programme, also received the highest marks (it came second in last year's ranking).

Piotr RutkowskiChemical and Process Engineering is the design and control of integrated processes and process lines. It concerns processes in all processing industries but currently, it is also entering the field of environmental protection.

– This degree programme provides students with very good development opportunities. The curriculum is modern and suited to the needs of the socio-economic environment. We cooperate with companies operating in the chemical industry and related markets, where our students do their internships and then also find jobs. In the Chemical and Process Engineering degree programme, we also offer studies in English, also as part of international schemes – says Prof. Piotr Rutkowski, Vice-Dean for Studies at the Faculty of Chemistry.

– So, this programme will be a good choice for anybody thinking about a professional future in the chemical, processing, food, or pharmaceutical industry – adds the Vice-Dean of W3.

Chemical Technology came second in the ranking of degree programmes. Six degree programmes offered by WUST reached third place – Electrical Engineering, Technical Physics, Mining and Geology, Mechanics and Machine Construction, Computer Science, and Mechatronics.
