Our scientists and specialists from Extremo Technologies have sent extremophilic volcanic microalgae into space. They were taken there by Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski. All this to test how the algae would cope in such extreme conditions.

Inauguration of the 2026/2027 academic year
On Thursday, 1 October, at 10 a.m., Wrocław University of Science and Technology will officially inaugurate the new academic year in the Assembly Hall of the Main Building (A-1). The ceremony will be streamed live on the Wrocław Tech YouTube channel.
The programme includes:
- inaugural address by the Rector, Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs,
- matriculation ceremony for new students,
- conferral of an honorary doctorate on Prof. Emmanuelle Charpentier, winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry,
- inaugural lecture by Prof. Emmanuelle Charpentier, “From curiosity to CRISPR: lessons from a scientific journey”,
- presentation of the Medals of the Commission of National Education,
- presentation of the Rector’s Special Awards “Docendo Discimus”.
The ceremony will feature a performance by the Academic Choir of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, conducted by Małgorzata Sapiecha-Muzioł.
