Nine teams competed in the men's category, with the favourites being the hosts, who confirmed their great shape already in the qualifiers. WUST’s eight won the race ahead of the runner-up team by almost five seconds.

In the final race, our students also grossly outstripped their rivals, but after the protest of the Cracow team, which at some point was slowed down by a wave caused by a passing ship, the judges decided to repeat the race. For WUST rowers, however, it was no problem, as they won once again achieving the time of 2.16,63 at the finish line. The second place went to the team from Dresden and the third place to the team of Jagiellonian University. It was the fourth consecutive triumph of WUST contenders in the Odra River Cup regatta.

Final results of men’s eights:

  1. Wrocław University of Science and Technology
  2. Dresden University of Technology I (Germany)
  3. Jagiellonian University I
  4. Dresden University of Technology II (Germany)
  5. AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow
  6. University of Wrocław

Five teams competed in the women's competition, and the promotion to the final was earned by rowers from the Pomeranian University of Medicine in Szczecin, AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. In the race for the Cup of the Marshal of the Lower Silesia Voivodeship, the teams from Cracow and Szczecin fought an extremely fierce duel. Eventually, the team from PUM won the competition, thus getting even with the AGH University of Science and Technology for the defeat in last year's final of the regatta.

Simultaneously with the eights’ competition, there was an exciting dragon boat competition. 17 11-strong teams, consisting of rowers and a drummer, took part in the fight for the Cup of the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs WUST. The best times in the qualifying round were achieved by teams from AGH University of Science and Technology as well as students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Electronics of Microsystems and Photonics, who advanced to the final. After a very balanced fight, the Cracow team won by a dozen or so centimetres, thus beating the representatives of W12.

orc_2019_el9c.jpgThe sports events on the River Odra was accompanied by a family picnic prepared by members of WUST’s scientific circles and guests. Nine scientific circles from WUST and the Student Society of Laboratory Diagnosticians from the Medical University encouraged joint experimentation.

In the traditional rowing eights’ regatta of two Wrocław universities, held at the very end of the competitions, the WUST crew quite effortlessly defeated their eternal rivals. This has been the 21st victory of our rowers, who only twice have had to acknowledge the superiority of the team representing the University of Wrocław.

The event ended with concerts and a laser show. The first to turn up was Gooral - an artist combining club and electronic sounds with the music of the Polish highlands. Then Fisz Emade Tworzywo, who have been successful on the Polish hip-hop scene for 17 years, came onto the stage.
