Professor Olgierd Czerner is a graduate of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, where in 1951 he completed a degree programme in architecture. Also at our university, he obtained his further academic degrees including the title of professor, which he received in 1977. After the war, he became the first Conservator of the Monuments of the City of Wrocław. The restoration projects conducted during his term of office included works on the city’s Gothic churches. Professor Czerner was involved in the initiative aiming to make Wrocław’s Panorama of Racławice available to the public. From 1965, he organised the Museum of Architecture (he was the director of the museum for over 30 years). In 1987, he began the reconstruction of the ruined collegiate church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Głogów.

Professor Olgierd Czerner belongs to organisations including ICOMOS (International Council for the Protection of Monuments and Historical Places), International Council of Museums ICOM, Committee of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Society for the Preservation of Monuments, Association of Polish Architects, Association of Art Historians of the Association of Monuments Conservators. He has authored numerous books on architecture.
