Open lectures organised under the Interdisciplinary Scientific Seminar at Wrocław University of Science and Technology are returning after the holiday. The guest of the first meeting, to be held on October 17, will be prof. Dick van Gameren, an outstanding architect, urban planner, and a scientist specializing in the field of housing environment, who will deliver a lecture entitled “The inclusive city. Rapid urbanisation and the global quest for affordable housing”.

The guest of the first meeting, to be held on October 17, will be prof. Dick van Gameren, an outstanding architect, urban planner, and a scientist specializing in the field of housing environment, who will deliver a lecture entitled “The inclusive city. Dick van Gameren’s lecture at Wrocław University of Science and Technology will start at 2:00 pm in the lecture theatre of WUST (Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego 27, building A-1). The meeting is open to all interested persons, but those willing to attend it need to register via the evenea.pl system.

Dick van Gameren studied Architecture in Delft and graduated cum laude in 1988. From 1993 to 2005, he was a partner at De Architectengroep in Amsterdam. In 2005, he founded Dick van Gameren architecten. Since 2013 Dick van Gameren is a partner at world-famous avant-garde architectural group Mecanoo  Architecten. Over the years he has realised numerous projects, ranging from exhibition designs to urban-development master plans. Examples of his designs include residential buildings in IJburg and the Eastern Docklands area of Amsterdam and in the Westelijke Tuinsteden neighbourhood of the city. His design for the Dutch Embassy in Ethiopia won him the prestigious Aga Khan Award in 2007. It is just one of the many awards he has received. Recently, he won the Rijnlandse Architectuurprijs with his design for the Langebrug student housing project in Leiden.

In parallel with the design work, Dick van Gameren conducts research in the field of residential architecture.He has been Professor of Dwelling at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment since 2006, and chairman of the Architecture Department for ten years to become the faculty Dean in 2019.He is the author of many scientific publications and a longtime editor of the specialist research magazine DASH (Delft Architectural Studies on Housing).His responsibilities include managing an international teaching and research network aimed at tackling the problem of affordable housing in rapidly expanding cities in Asia and Africa.
