Erasmus Mundus 2026: funding for three projects involving Wrocław Tech

The STRAINS and Chemical Nano-Engineering (CNE) programmes have secured funding for future cohorts. The European Commission has also backed eGov-Sol, a Wrocław Tech-led project focusing on digital government.
Erasmus Mundus programmes are jointly developed by universities from several countries. Students study at different institutions, gaining experience in an international environment. Applications are open to candidates from around the world, with the best applicants eligible for full scholarships funded by the European Union. Upon graduation, students receive a joint degree awarded by the partner universities.
In the latest call, the European Commission selected 37 Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters projects for funding. Nine of them will involve Polish institutions.
Wrocław University of Science and Technology is a partner in two programmes: the European Master in Advanced Solid Mechanics (STRAINS) at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Chemical Nano-Engineering (CNE) at the Faculty of Chemistry. Both have been offered at our university for several years and will now continue for another six.
Mechanics of materials and structures
The European Master in Advanced Solid Mechanics (STRAINS) is a two-year English-taught programme in advanced solid mechanics. Its curriculum combines theoretical, experimental and computational classes. Students learn about computational mechanics, the mechanics of materials and structures, and materials design, among other subjects.
The consortium comprises six universities. In addition to Wrocław Tech, these are Université de Lille and École Centrale de Lille in France, Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium, the National Technical University of Athens in Greece and the University of Calabria in Italy.
At Wrocław Tech, students on the programme benefit primarily from the expertise of researchers specialising in the modelling of materials and structures.
The programme’s coordinator at Wrocław Tech is Dr Joanna Pieczyńska-Kozłowska.
From chemistry to nano-engineering
Chemical Nano-Engineering (CNE) is a two-year programme offered jointly by Aix-Marseille Université, Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Tor Vergata University of Rome. The curriculum of this unique programme combines chemistry, nano-engineering and numerical modelling.
During their semester at Wrocław Tech, students learn about nano-objects, particularly nanomachines, supramolecular systems and medical nanodevices. Through laboratory and project-based classes, they learn to synthesise, characterise and model nanostructures, nanomaterials and nanodevices. They are also introduced to multiscale numerical simulation methods.
The programme’s coordinators at Wrocław Tech are Prof. Piotr Rutkowski and Prof. Elżbieta Zienkiewicz.
A degree programme for digital government
Funding for the development of a new degree programme has also been awarded to eGov-Sol (Secure and AI-Enabled eGovernment Systems Engineering), a project led by Dr Krystian Wojtkiewicz from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology. The European Commission selected 50 proposals for funding under the Erasmus Mundus Design Measures action. The materials developed as part of the project will underpin a future application to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters action.
Wrocław University of Science and Technology will coordinate eGov-Sol. Its partners are Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, University College Dublin and International University in Ho Chi Minh City.
“Together, we will develop a Master’s degree programme focused on designing, implementing and securing AI-enabled e-government systems,” says Dr Krystian Wojtkiewicz, the project’s coordinator.
The curriculum will cover software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, public administration and the legal aspects of digital transformation.
“We will develop the curriculum, a student mobility plan, a quality assurance system, rules for cooperation between the partner universities and the framework for future accreditation,” adds Dr Wojtkiewicz.
The project will begin on 1 September 2026 and run for 15 months.
