The respected German physicist and philosopher talked about the ethical side of the technological revolution at our university. Prof. Armin Grunwald from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology was the next speaker of the Interdisciplinary Science Seminar.
The lecture, entitled "AI: when technology meets anthropology", was take place on 12 January at the PWr Congress Centre (building D-20, 8 Janiszewskiego St.).
Armin Grunwald is Professor of Philosophy and Ethics of Technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. He is director of the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis at KIT and head of the Office for Technology Assessment in the German Bundestag.
After university studies in physics, mathematics and philosophy, he obtained his PhD in theoretical solid state physics at the University of Cologne in 1987. His research interests include the evaluation and ethics of new technologies, digitisation or sustainability theory.
Prof. Grunwald is a member of several advisory boards and committees related to the evaluation of technological progress, including the German Ethics Council and the National Council for Nuclear Waste Disposal.
He is the author and editor of a number of specialist works, including Technology Assessment in Practice and Theory (Routledge, 2019) and The Hermeneutic Side of Answers Research and Innovation (Wiley, 2016).
