PWR Racing Team's Bolide Ranks as Fastest in Germany Topping Acceleration Test

Of the 73 racing cars with combustion engines which took part in last weekend's Formula Student competition held in Germany only one reached a result of less than 4 seconds over the distance of 75 metres. By yielding the result of 3.97 seconds, the students of Wrocław University of Science and Technology became the winners of the Acceleration challenge.

It was the first time that PWR Racing Team had won the Acceleration test, consisting in negotiating the distance of 75 metres in as little time as possible. The result of 3.97 seconds was obtained by Kamil Połowczuk behind the steering wheel of the RT07 racing car. – We'd been waiting for a long time for this success, many times within a step of winning – emphasise the students of WUST Racing Team. – Our dream has come true – one that we've been striving to attain since the very beginning of the team. Acceleration has always been our flagship challenge, but we were often just a few hundredths of a second away from winning.

However, the students of Wrocław University of Science and Technology took only the 26th place in the general ranking despite their good performance in a few other challenges (including the 8th place in Design Event, i.e. a presentation of the bolide's construction, and the 19th in Skid Pad – a ride along a figure eight shaped track). The final result was determined by bad luck. During the Endurance challenge (endurance oriented race over the distance of 22 km), the safety cut-out switch on the PWR students' racing car broke, as a result of which the bolide failed the technical check following the race.

The team won the third place in the special competition named "Best Systems Engineering", organised by the company Schaeffler Group – one of six special prizes awarded every year at the Formula Student Germany competition. The teams had to send a registration form prior to the event, while the challenge involved describing issues such as how the bolide's individual systems work together and interact with each other, and how they are managed, as well as explaining particular tasks’ cost planning aspects and timescales.

The German competition, held at the Hockenheimring racing track, was the third one in which the students of Wrocław University of Science and Technology took part in this season. It attracted 116 best teams from all over the world, including 73 using racing cars with combustion engines. The competition was won by the team of the Technical University of Munich, followed by the students of the University of Stuttgart and the Technical University of Graz.

PWR Racing Team's performance in the previous competitions, held in the UK and Czechia, brought them the fifth places in the general ranking.
