The security and protection of the most important IT resources and the design and development of secure software are some of the focus areas of the Lower Silesian Cybersecurity Cluster, which was established as a WUST initiative

- Today’s signing of the agreement is very important to us. To all intents and purposes, there are no cybersecurity specialists today, as there is no systemic education in this field. We’re trying to change it. Last year, we launched at the university a nation-unique degree programme Cybersecurity, which is now being pursued by 100 students - said Professor Tadeusz Więckowski, the originator of the group, a former rector of WUST, and currently head of the Department of Telecommunications and Teleinformatics at the Faculty of Electronics.

The founding members of the cluster, whose leader is Wrocław University of Science and Technology, are five tertiary institutes, five public sector’s administration units, and six enterprises.

The establishment of the cluster is part of the all-European drive for defence systems development - especially so in the view of the fact that in 2013, the European cybersecurity strategy was established, while in 2015, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe reached a consensus with respect to measures concerning network and information systems’ security as well as the reform of the data protection system.
