Academic staff numbers are growing at WUST

31 scientists have received their habilitation diplomas and 116 young researchers have received their doctorates. Awards have also been granted to outstanding graduates and authors of the best theses

We would also like to thank and congratulate you and your loved ones - said Rector of the university Professor Cezary Madryas at the ceremonial event held in a lecture theatre.

Professor Madryas emphasised that scientific work is a strategic area of activity of any university that aspires to and prepares itself for the role of a research-oriented university. He also pointed out that assisting scientists in obtaining degrees and titles should be not only one of the university’s fundamental tasks but also an activity for its own benefit as an institution because it is impossible to envisage the development of Wrocław University of Science and Technology without young researchers.

In total, since April 2018, 116 people have been awarded doctorates of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and 31 scientists have been conferred their habilitation degrees. According to the Rector, this is a satisfactory result.

- These figures show that we have young and talented researchers, who we can hope to continue the directions of research important to Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and thus develop Polish, European, and world science. I congratulate the newly promoted doctors for taking the very important step on their scientific path. On behalf of our whole community, I would like to thank the habilitated doctors - you are contributing to the enlargement of our independent staff, which is extremely important to our university - added Professor Madryas.

In the competition for the best thesis of the year, the awards went to the winning first cycle programme graduate Hanna Orlikowska from the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology - and  Hubert Stokowski from the same faculty - the winner among second cycle programme graduates. 

During the ceremony, 14 people received badges of the meritorious graduate. - These are people who - despite the passage of a few, a dozen, or even a few dozen years after their graduation - stay in touch with Wrocław University of Science and Technology - people on whom the university can count. Thank you very much for that - said the Rector.
