WUST’s projects at WSIS 2018

The students and researchers from our University were among the attendees of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2018 in Geneva. They were invited to Switzerland by the Office of Electronic Communications 

wsis2018_6.jpgSix projects developed by the students and researchers from Wrocław University of Science and Technology were presented on Monday at the WSIS Forum 2018 in Geneva. Before the event, our representatives also took part in the “Good Practices for Accelerating Digital Transformation” workshop.   In the evening, during a special reception at the seat of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations, the guests had an opportunity to take a close look at the projects brought from Wrocław University of Science and Technology and talk to their authors. 

The following projects were presented at the event:      

  • Scan?- an integrated scanner featuring a 3D printer, built by the students from the Scientific Circle “REVIR3D”,
  • Unmanned aerial system for transporting blood, designed by the Academic Aviation Club of WUST, whose purpose is to quickly deliver blood to places which are hard to access,
  • The Mars rover Scorpio developed by the Scientific Circle of Unconventional Vehicles “OFF-Road”,
  • A robotic chessboard built by the students from The Scientific Circle of Robotics Engineers “KoNaR”,
  • The Erly project created by the company InnoMesh, which makes it possible to lend a powerbank from any location in the city,
  • A robot equipped with a manipulator developed by the Inter-Faculty Scientific Circle of Mechatronics and Robotics “Synergia”.

WSIS Forum 2018 (March 19-23, Geneva) is an event that has a special importance to the global ICT sector.  It is co-organised by institutions such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, the United Nations’ Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations’ Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD). This year, the participants will focus on applying ICT to build an information-based society oriented towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals.
