WUST and Volvo to work closely together

Date: 15.07.2019 Category: general news, science/research/innovation

Conducting and developing innovative scientific projects, creating joint educational programmes, organising work placements, as well as organising MSc and PhD thesis defences are only some of the areas covered by the agreement between Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Volvo Polska. On Wednesday, July 10, the cooperation agreement was signed by the representatives of the university and the Swedish conglomerate.

pwr_volvo_1.jpgThe meeting, organised in the main building of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, was attended by Professor Cezary Madryas  - the university's Rector, Professor Andrzej Kucharski - Vice-rector for Computerisation and Cooperation with the Economy, Ulf Magnusson - President of Volvo Poland, and Małgorzata Ryniak - Plenipotentiary of the Board of Directors of Volvo Poland for Cooperation with Universities.

Representatives of both parties have unanimously declared their willingness to develop fruitful cooperation they have undertaken so far, both in the field of research and projects, as well as in the education of young scientists. Students of the University, who for years have been recognising Volvo as a place worth working at, will probably be satisfied with the agreement.

- The cooperation between Wrocław University of Science Technology and Volvo has lasted virtually from the moment the concern brought its operation to our region - said Professor  Cezary Madryas, Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. - We conduct joint research in the field of production of modern buses and the development of construction machines. Students of Wrocław University of Science and Technology appreciate the opportunity to do internships and traineeships at Volvo, and the surveys show that the company is one of the most popular places where they want to work after graduation. These activities show that we are good partners for each other and a successful example of combining science with business. I hope that today's agreement will not only strengthen our existing cooperation but will also allow further areas of activity to be opened up, such as the creation of dedicated education programmes.

pwr_volvo_2.jpgThe scope of the agreement will allow the parties, thanks to the use of the experience and knowledge of employees as well as the potential of both Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Volvo, to carry out a variety of projects that will create opportunities for development and increasing competitiveness.

- Volvo Polska has been operating in Wrocław for 25 years. From the moment we started our activity in the city, we have focused on building long-lasting relations with Wrocław University of Science and Technology, working together on the development of education programmes, including placements and student apprenticeships, pursuing degree theses, presenting our technological achievements at lectures and seminars at the University, as well as conducting scientific cooperation in the area of developing modern technologies - said Ulf Magnusson, President of Volvo Poland. - Cooperation with such an important academic centre as Wrocław University of Science and Technology is of great importance to our company. By signing the agreement today, we emphasise the stable and long-term dimension of our relations. We wish to continue this important cooperation, contributing to the training of future engineers and ensuring that they are adequately prepared for their professional work. I am convinced that the exchange of knowledge and experience between Volvo and the University will create interesting development prospects for students, academics, and our company, as well as paying off in the future with further valuable initiatives.
