The Centre for Aviation Research and Development of Wrocław University of Science and Technology is to be developed in Lubin.  The compact with respect to the project was signed on October 19 by Professor Cezary Madryas, Rector of WUST and Lubin President Robert Raczyński

- It’s an important day for our university. For more than 10 years now, we have been seeking our own space for aviation research, as our needs in this area are ample - said Rector of WUST, Professor Cezary Madryas.  - We carefully inspected the infrastructure there and perused the plans. We even took a flight. We believe it’s a great offer – admitted Rector.

The centre is going to be located in the area of the airfield of the Flying Club of Lubin Copper Mining Region. City President Robert Raczyński stressed that it’s a modern facility with considerable research potential, where innovative technologies can be developed: – What we have at our disposal is Europe’s only private airfield meeting world standards. Thanks to the cooperation with Wrocław University of Science and Technology, this space will also be intensively used in terms of scientific research. We’re really looking forward to that – added Lubin President.

The first beneficiaries of the cooperation project will be the students and researchers of the following faculties: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechanical and Power Engineering. The tertiary institute’s plans involve delivery of classes but also opening laboratories with aerodynamic tunnels and launching technology workshops.

The world’s biggest technical universities have their own airfields. We’ve been thinking about a place like this since the opening of the aviation engineering programme at our university - said Professor Zbigniew Gnutek, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering. - We need it to be able to teach technology students to fly planes using a professional runway as well as conduct research into fields such as studies of airborne machines and engines or propulsion systems - he added. We’re itching to expand our activities with projects in areas such as unconventional power engineering or space industry. Aviation kindles the mind and imagination - concluded Dean of W9.

Students of the University are certainly very happy about the compact. - We know this airfield, as by courtesy of the Flying Club of Lubin Copper Mining Region we have been able to do tests of our unmanned machines for a few years now - said student Damian Bajer from the Academic Aviation Club of WUST. He added that today’s arrangements will considerably facilitate any formalities. – At last, we’ll be able to constantly use the modern runway, carry out advanced tests or organise competitions – added Club member Rafał Marcinkowski.

First classes for students of our university to be held at Lubin airfield facility start as soon as at the beginning of next academic year.
