560 new foreign students officially commenced their studies at Wroclaw Tech today. During a special ceremony organised by the International Office, they were welcomed by, among others, the Vice-Rector for Cooperation, Prof. Dariusz Łydżba.

560 new foreign students officially commenced their studies at PWR today. During a special ceremony organised by the International Office, they were welcomed by, among others, the Vice-Rector for Cooperation, Prof. Dariusz Łydżba.

328 people on a full course of studies and another 232 as part of student exchange programmes from dozens of countries around the world began their studies at Wroclaw Tech.

For all of them, the International Office has prepared a whole week of activities and workshops. A city game, a campus tour and integration in smaller groups are already behind them, and a tour of Wrocław is still planned for the coming days, while the WroMigrant city contact point is preparing special information workshops.

There were also presentations explaining the rules of life in Poland and at the university, with a large dose of useful information about life in Poland or dealing with the necessary formalities. The focal point of the so-called Integration Week was the inaugural meeting in the C-13 building, where our new foreign students were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Cooperation Prof. Dariusz Łydżba.

- I welcome you to one of the best universities in Poland. I am glad that you have chosen the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and I assure you that you have made a good choice - said Prof. Dariusz Łydżba. - I wish you that your time at our university will be fruitful both academically and socially.

During the meeting, male and female students were able to find out, among other things, how to get around the campus, what to do in their free time, where to look for support and how to join study groups and student organisations.

- 'Remember that you can always turn to me and the whole team of the International Office, we are there for you and we will help you in every aspect of your studies,' added Anna Jarosławska, head of the International Office.

A total of 328 people came this year to study full-time at PWr in Polish or English - most from Belarus, as well as Turkey and Ukraine. The new students also include people from Uganda, Syria or Colombia, among others. A further 232 people have come for a semester or a year - as part of student exchange programmes. Most come from Spain, as well as Germany, Portugal, France, Italy and Turkey. We also have representatives from Albania, South Korea or Mexico.

We asked several international students about their first impressions and why they chose Wroclaw Tech:

Manel Nasri (Nigeria)

„I am originally from Nigeria, but I have been living in Germany for a long time and studying permanently at the University of Strasbourg. I came to Wroclaw tech for a year to study mechatronics.  So far, all the people I have met are very friendly and make me feel comfortable here.

As for the city, I am very happy with the practical, extensive tram and bus network. I also really like the green campus, which combines modernity with beautiful historical architecture”.

Camille Collet i Axel Aubin (France)

„We are both from Nantes in western France. We wanted to study at the same university, even though we chose completely different subjects (Camille electronics and Axel chemistry). We couldn't do it in our own city, so we decided to go on an adventure and travel together to a completely unknown country. Our older friends study at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and they highly recommended it to us.

We've only just arrived in Wrocław, so we can't say too much about it yet, but we intend to spend our studies getting to know Poland and new people”.

Eric, Jose Ramón, Yael (Spain)

Eric and Jose Ramon are from Murcia and Yael is from Malaga.

"We all heard about the Wrocław University of Science and Technology from our friends and relatives who had previously come here as part of the Erasmus programme and praised the university very much. They convinced us and we are going to study computer science at Wroclaw Tech

All three of us are in Poland for the first time - before that we didn't even know where Wrocław was. But we are already delighted with the weather and the beautiful, green and well-connected city. Plus the cable car over the river!”.

Mark Ogembo (Kenya)

„When I was choosing my course of study, I liked what Wroclaw Tech offered. The Mechanical Engineering programme is state-of-the-art and that convinced me. In addition, there is a Mercedes factory nearby, for example, and who knows, maybe I will be able to find a job there after graduation?

Although I've only been here for a few days, I really like it here. Especially the weather. The people are also very helpful and friendly, and the public transport is sensational, especially compared to what we have in Kenya.”.

Jiyeong Kang (South Korea)

„While browsing through various places in the world, I saw pictures of Wroclaw and the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology - it captivated me, so I decided to come. Especially because studying and living in Poland is much cheaper than in Korea, and being located in the middle of Europe gives you the opportunity to travel a lot to other countries.

I associate my future with electronics, so I chose to major in electronic and computer engineering. I'm also happy to have met three other people from my country, as I'm sure I will feel more comfortable”.
