The 12th Unite! Dialogue has begun at Aalto University in Finland — one of the most important events in the Unite! network calendar. During the event, Marcel Sobecki, our student was elected President of SURE!.
Unite! Dialogues are biannual multi-day meetings of representatives from the network’s partner universities. Students, researchers, and administrative staff work in task forces to develop initiatives that strengthen the alliance — from designing joint degree programmes and double diplomas, through developing innovative teaching methods and academic exchange, to creating joint research centres, support networks for young scientists, and partnerships with companies and public institutions.
In Finland, participants are also discussing student and staff mobility, sustainable development, and the digitalisation of educational processes.
“Building relationships is important, but maintaining and strengthening them is equally vital — and that’s exactly what’s happening in Aalto,” said Prof. Renata Krzyżyńska, Vice-Rector for External Relations. “We work together remotely every day, but it’s thanks to these regular in-person meetings that our initiatives reach a higher level and gain momentum. It’s a great value to be part of this community and grow with it,” she added.
During the Unite! Dialogue in Aalto, new leadership for the alliance will be chosen for the next term. Among the student representatives, the decision has already been made — Marcel Sobecki has become the new President of SURE!, the organisation representing students within Unite!. His priority is to improve communication with students and increase Unite!’s visibility in their community.
“We want to build a strong representation, develop local groups, and ensure every voice is heard,” said the new SURE! President. “We plan regular ‘by students, for students’ projects and closer cooperation with the alliance’s working groups,” he announced.
Sobecki also noted that holding the first democratic elections and formalising Unite!’s legal status are key steps toward strengthening the student role within the alliance and securing independent funding for student initiatives.
The next Unite! Dialogue will be hosted by Politecnico di Torino in February 2026.
