First such assessment

The evaluation for 2017-2021 was conducted under new rules, for disciplines and not faculties as before.

The Committee for the Evaluation of Science assessed the performance of all staff members active in a particular discipline. Researchers submitted their best four achievements for evaluation. Disciplines were evaluated in three categories: academic standard, the financial impact of research and development, and the impact of scientific activity on the functioning of society and the economy.

Each discipline received one of the following five scientific categories: A+, A, B+, B or C. The highest grade of A+ was awarded by the Committee only to units whose activities are comparable to leading European research centres and recognised abroad.

Universities are entitled to lodge an appeal within 30 days from receipt of the decision. After this time, the awarded category will remain in place until the results of the next evaluation in 2026.
