Transfer of authority at Wrocław University of Science and Technology
Professor Arkadiusz Wójs has assumed the role of the rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. On the last day of August, the outgoing rector, vice-rectors, and deans signed a declaration of transfer of authority at the university. The four-year term of the new authorities begins on September 1.
The outgoing rector, vice-rectors, and deans along with the new authorities of the university and faculties placed their signatures in the Book of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Next, Professor Cezary Madryas handed over the symbolic key to the university to Professor Arkadiusz Wójs.
– As you are assuming the authority over Wrocław University of Science and Technology, it is in a good financial situation, with teaching facilities and a new sports centre. You are professionals and I wish you a lot of luck, which is useful at many times – said Professor Cezary Madryas.
The new rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology also unveiled his name on the plaque of rectors in the hall of the university’s main building.
– Every four years, a new wave of enthusiasm appears at the university, when many people hope that something special will happen. Today we have opened a new sports centre, but in the past term, there have been many other investments – related to the university’s scientific base. The most important of these is, of course, the GEO-3EM building – said Professor Arkadiusz Wójs, WUST’s new rector. – We have also had great scientific achievements – Professor Marek Samoć and Professor Marcin Drąg became winners of the “Polish Nobel Prize”. Just a few years ago, it was hard to imagine such a success. As far as teaching is concerned, we have been one of Poland’s leading universities – added the rector.
However, Professor Wójs admitted that the past term of office was extremely difficult. During this time, the new act on higher education came into force, among other things, forcing several changes at the university, and in recent months there have also been challenges related to the coronavirus pandemic.
– Professor Cezary Madryas bravely endured all this and I hope that I too will prove as tough and in four years I will be standing here smiling. It seems to me that during every term there are such difficult moments, so we have to be together and support each other to make our university even better. Together with the vice-rectors and deans, we will strive to implement all the ideas that we received as early as during the election campaign – emphasised Professor Arkadiusz Wójs.
The ceremony ended with a toast made by the rectors and deans to the success of Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
