A group of students from India has taken part in the international summer school organised at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. During the courses, they did not learn only about solutions offered by biomedical engineering in personalised medicine, but also Polish culture, the city, and other parts of the region

szkoly_indie.jpgThis year's summer school – prepared with physiotherapy students in mind – was supervised by Professor Halina Podbielska from the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology, while the participants of the classes, which started on September 10, were female students from the Indian RK University.

The four weeks’ training acquainted them with issues including fundamentals of biomedical engineering, certain aspects of personalised medicine, as well as infrared examination methods. The training schedule comprised mainly practical classes involving thermovision examination, and studies of electrical and optical properties of tissues.

Thanks to cooperation with the Faculty of Physiotherapy of the Academy of Physical Education, they also found out how to adjust physiotherapeutic treatment to patients’ individual needs. Additionally, they had an opportunity to attend unique classes in a cold chamber. Some of the classes were held in the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Wrocław, where the participants learned about the latest methods of genetic examination.

For a few years, Wrocław University of Science and Technology has specialised in organising a few weeks’ dedicated courses commissioned by other institutions. During the courses, called summer or winter schools, students obtain specialist knowledge.

– Apart from broadening their theoretical and practical knowledge, the participants of the courses take part in an extensive cultural programme. They have an opportunity to get to know not only today’s Poland but also our country’s cultural and historical heritage - says Andrzej Moczko, PhD, Eng, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of WUST.

During their stay in our country, the students from India visited Castle Książ, the Church of Peace in Świdnica, the palace in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, the gold mine in Złoty Stok, and Polanica Zdrój.
