Professor Janusz Mroczka from WUST’s Faculty of Electronics has been honoured with the title of honorary doctor of the Gdańsk University of Technology. He received the distinction from the university’s Rector, Professor Jacek Namieśnik
On January 23, in Gdańsk, during a ceremonial session of the Senate, the Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology conferred the title of doctor honoris causa on Professor Janusz Mroczka and presented him with the Science Allegory award, which is awarded to outstanding representatives of the world of science in recognition for their contribution to the Gdańsk University of Technology and higher education.
- It gives me great satisfaction that it is us, the academic community of the Gdańsk University of Technology, who want to express our respect to Professor Janusz Mroczka, such a distinguished figure for Polish science, with this highest academic honour - said Professor Jacek Namieśnik.
The laureate’s awarding procedure was supervised by Professor Jerzy Wtorek, Dean of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications, and Informatics at the Gdańsk University of Technology. The reviewing panel comprised Professor Andrzej Materka, Professor Maciej Ogorzałek, and Professor Bogdan Maciej Wilamowski.
In his laudation, Professor Jerzy Wtorek emphasised that Professor Janusz Mroczka is an outstanding figure of the world of science, especially technical sciences, a researcher of international recognition, educator of many generations of scientists and engineers, and a persistent, goal-oriented individual. - But he is also a person, which should be emphasised, with a great sense of humour and, at the same time, one critically assessing his achievements - added Professor Wtorek.
Presenting the figure of the laureate, the supervisor explained that it is important not only who receives the honorary doctorate but also who confers it. - Today, this title and honour will be conferred on the initiative of our faculty, which has existed and developed for over 66 years, gathering electronic, optical, and biomedical metrologists in its ranks. It is, therefore, safe to say that this award has been accepted by scientists dealing with similar scientific and constructional issues and problems. All the greater its value - he said.
During the ceremony, Professor Janusz Mroczka delivered a lecture entitled "Selected issues of modelling fractal aggregates".
