Paulina Kasperkiewicz-Wasilewska, PhD from the Faculty of Chemistry has been awarded a L'Oréal-UNESCO scholarship for Women and Science. The scientist was recognised for her advanced research work in the field of life sciences
The "L'Oréal Polska for Women and Science" programme has been run since 2001 in cooperation with the Polish Committee for UNESCO, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and - since 2016 - also the Polish Academy of Sciences. The project aims to promote scientific achievements of women and to encourage them to continue their work in the field of science.
Paulina Kasperkiewicz-Wasilewska, PhD was among six outstanding female researchers from various Polish scientific centres.
Our chemist works at the Division of Bioorganic Chemistry, in the team led by Professor Marcin Drąg. Her research activity consists in the determination of activity and imaging of proteolytic enzymes - an important group of enzymes that control many biochemical processes taking place in living cells and lead, among other things, to the removal of abnormal cancer cells.
During the 18th edition of the event, 93 Polish female researchers were awarded in recognition of their projects’ considerable potential. The finalists of the programme were officially announced on November 14 during a gala held at the Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.
