Seven robots constructed by the students from the Scientific Circle of Robotics KoNaR took part in the Iron Cup 2019 competition held in Brazil. The machines from Wrocław University of Science and Technology competed in three categories winning gold and silver medals

kn_konar_w_brazylii.jpg- We took five mini-sumo robots, one line follower, and one robot for the "combat" tournament. It was the first time we entered a robot to the combat challenge, even though it was also part of the Robotic Arena competition organised by us in January - says Mateusz Michalak, President of KoNaR.

Nearly 200 robots were seen at the tournament competing in several categories: sumo machines’ fights, "line follower", whose task is to complete a route as quickly as possible, as well as "trekking" and "soccer". The most spectacular challenge, however, was the "combat" competition, i.e. fight of robots using saws, knives, hammers, and pickaxes, which took place in a cage closed for the purpose of the spectators’ safety.

Ultimately, our students won gold in the "MiniSumo" competition with their robot called Quality and silver in the "LineFollower" category with the robot Cheng Shi, which was beaten by the winner by only 0.02 of a second. The trip to the Iron Cup 2019 competition was possible thanks to a subsidy from the Best of the Best 3.0 grant funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

In addition, robots built by our young constructors brought five medals from the Robomaticon competition, held in Warsaw at the weekend. The machines from Wrocław University of Science and Technology won in three categories - "MicroMouse" (robot named “Janusz”), "MicroSumo". (“Grafi”) and "LineFollower Turbo". (“Navy”). A silver medal was won by the robot Skywave (competition "LineFollower Turbo") while bronze was earned by the robot Skylake (category "LineFollower").
