Our researcher reaches the final of the Scientific Awards of Polityka competition

Mariusz Ptak PhD, Eng. from WUST’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has become a finalist of the 19th edition of the Scientific Awards of Polityka in the "Technical Sciences” category. The winners of the competition will be announced on October 20 during a ceremonial event in Warsaw.

dr_inz_mateusz_ptak.jpgThe Scientific Awards of the weekly Polityka are granted in five conventional categories: humanities, social sciences, strict sciences, technology, and life sciences. The weekly has already awarded a total of over 300 people in appreciation of their efforts and contribution to the development of Polish (and foreign) science.

 Mariusz Ptak, PhD, Eng. works at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. In his research work, he deals with numerical simulations, biomechanics of head injuries, reconstruction of road accidents, as well as the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

The result of the research will include three numerical models of the brain - a child’s, an adult’s and an elderly person’s, which in the future may help entities such as companies producing helmets by developing better ways to protect our heads. Fifteen scientists entered the final round of the competition organised by the "Polityka" weekly. The chapter will select five winners from the group, who will receive grants amounting to 15,000 PLN during the gala ceremony. The remaining finalists will receive 5,000 PLN each.
