Eight medals, including as many as three gold ones, were won by the Polish participants of the 32nd International Championship of France in Mathematical and Logical Games, held in Paris. The result was the most successful among all countries taking part in the event
This year's Polish team comprised 32 people who’d done best in the Championships of Poland organised at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. The contenders tackled mathematical tasks in eight age categories - from primary and secondary school pupils to university students, adults, and professionals working in the fields of IT and mathematics.
It was the secondary school students from Wrocław who did best in Paris taking the first three places in their category. The winner was Krzysztof Olejniczak, the second place went to Mateusz Rzepecki (both students of the 3rd Comprehensive School in Wrocław), while the third place was won by Radosław Girul (24th Comprehensive School in Wrocław).
Moreover, gold medals were awarded to Łukasz Kalinowski (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań; a category for university and post-secondary school students) and Gabriel Listowski from Zabrze (a category for adult contenders).
Silver trophies were earned by Damian Dąbrowski (Middle School no. 16 in Szczecin) in the category for 7th and 8th graders and middle school students, and the university student Grzegorz Adamski (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań). As for the competition of 5th and 6th graders, a bronze medal went to Alicja Mężyk from Primary School no. 28 in Kielce.
The International Championship of France in Mathematical and Logical Games, also referred to as the World Championship, has been held in Paris since 1987. Polish teams have very successfully taken part in it since 1992. The Polish participation in the Competition was supported with the patronage of the French Institute in Poland.
