The National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) has awarded funding for projects by researchers from Wrocław University of Science and Technology, to be carried out in collaboration with researchers from Slovakia, Germany, France, Italy, and Belarus.
Researchers from the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics, and Microsystems are conducting research in cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. With the NAWA funding, they will work on key support technologies for advanced structures and electronic and optoelectronic devices. The project coordinators are Beata Ściana, PhD, Eng. from Wrocław Tech and Prof. Ľubica Stuchlíková from SUT.
Thanks to the Polonium programme, joint research with French universities will be carried out by Joanna Olesiak-Bańska PhD, Dsc. from the Faculty of Chemistry (in collaboration with the University of Strasbourg) and Prof. Teodor Gotszalk from the Department of Electronics, Photonics, and Microsystems (in collaboration with the Polytechnic Institute of Paris).
Joanna Olesiak Bańska has received funding for the project “Gold nanoparticles functionalized with peptides – PeGoNa” to be developed in collaboration with Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires of the University of Strasbourg. The team in Poland will be headed by Joanna Olesiak-Bańska PhD, Dsc, Eng., while Prof. Vladimir Torbeev will be in charge of the French side of the project.
As for Prof. Teodor Gotszalk’s research, it will be conducted under the project “Electronic nanometrology of nanowire for power engineering applications” to be undertaken in collaboration with the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films, Ecole Polytechnique, Paris.
The Faculty of Chemistry will see a project implemented under the programme “Scientists in Solidarity with Belarus”. Wrocław University of Science and Technology will host Vitaly Kovalenko, PhD, an organic chemist specialising in stereoselective synthesis. Dr Kovalenko will work in the group led by Prof. Łukasz Berlicki at the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry.
The project "Smart System for Underground Impact Geomonitoring – SMEG" by University Professor Jan Blachowski, PhD, Dsc, Eng. (Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining, and Geology) has been qualified as part of research to be carried out jointly with the Federal Republic of Germany.
The research will be conducted together with the team of Prof. Jörg Benndorf from the Institute of Geodesy and Mine Surveying at Freiberg University of Mining and Technology.
The second project to be conducted with an institute based in the Federal Republic of Germany deals with the modelling and simulation of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be headed by Prof. Tyll Krüger from Wrocław Tech’s Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications in collaboration with the University of Koblenz-Landau.
Another two projects from the Faculty of Chemistry have received funding under the Canaletto project, involving joint research by Polish and Italian scientists.
Anna Dzimitrowicz, PhD, Eng. (member of Academia Iuvenum) together with Piotr Cyganowski, PhD, Eng, Dominik Terefinko, MSc, Eng, Prof. Paweł Pohl, and Prof. Piotr Jamroz, has received support for the international research project entitled "The application of cold atmospheric plasmas to obtain and modify biopolymer hydrogels and thin films", to be carried out together with the team of Prof. Massimo Bonini from Universita degli Studi di Firenze (Dipartimento di Chimica "Ugo Schiff").
Another researcher, University Professor Izabela Michalak, PhD, Dsc, Eng, has received funding for the study "Valorisation of waste biomass of macroalgae into bioproducts useful for sustainable agriculture and environment". The research will be carried out in collaboration with Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche "Giulio Natta", CNR in Milan, with Francesco Secundo, PhD in charge of the Italian leg of the project.
