Horizon Europe: Collaborating for Basic and Application Research Funding

In mid-July, more than 50 researchers from WroclawTech attended a special meeting dedicated to planning scientific collaboration with our partners from the Unite! alliance. The event was organized by Prof. Katarzyna Chojnacka, the rector's deputy for European cooperation, with the support of the Project Department.

This was the first step towards creating joint projects in the fields of energy, green transformation, and climate, which are clusters 5 and 6 within the Horizon Europe program.

The European Union announces RIA and IA proposal calls within these clusters, aiming to help to find solutions to emerging societal challenges Europe faces and to enhance the technological and industrial potential of EU countries. The budget for these two clusters alone exceeds 25 billion euros.

Representatives from all member universities will come to Wroclaw to discuss the development of the alliance. Before that, they will have the opportunnity to participate in a special workshop between September 16-18th in Karpacz. This workshop will focus on possible collaboration between individual partners on Horizon Europe projects.

The Rector's plans for the near future include the idea of creating a unit focused on supporting those applying for projects in the Horizon Europe program. This unit would operate as a consulting company style, lifting the administrative involvement of running the project from researchers.

Prof. Katarzyna Chojnacka points out the importance of remembering the names of partner universities from the Unite! alliance when attending international seminars or conferences. "We have to get into the habit of introducing themselves to scientists from these universities and trying to find common ground for cooperation. After all, we belong to the same alliance and should treat each other as one big scientific family," adds Prof. Chojnacka.”
