Foreign students are getting to know WUST

This entry may contain inaccurate data.

Almost 300 students from different countries are going to start their summer semester at our university. On Friday, they got to know the campus, their fellow students from scientific circles, and ways to spend free time in the city

obcokrajowcypwr_studenci2a.jpgThe most numerous groups among the new students are the citizens of India, Ukraine, and Turkey. Other newcomers include young people from Pakistan, Iraq, France, Spain, Portugal, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Italy, China, Libya, Brazil, and Germany. Among the most popular faculties chosen by foreign students, the faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Management, Chemistry, and Architecture are at the forefront.

We are very pleased that you have chosen Wrocław University of Science and Technology as your place of study. I hope that the upcoming semesters will be successful for you and that your study will end with a diploma. For many of you, these are the first days in Poland, and I hope that you will find here not only knowledge but friends, too, and that you will become ambassadors of our university in your countries. I wish you all the best and good luck with learning - said Professor Andrzej Dziedzic, Vice-Rector for Education at WUST.

During the “Orientation Day”, our new students saw an informational film about WUST, watched special presentations prepared by the University units, met their new peers - members of scientific circles and students’ organisations, and became familiar with the offering of the University’s library.

Currently, more than 1100 foreign people are studying at our University. Most of them come from Ukraine, India, and Belarus, with more than 250 participating in student exchange programmes.

We asked new WUST students why they’d chosen to study at our university:

obcokrajowcypwr_stud_niemcy.jpgMeike Küpper from Germany – I’m an Erasmus student at the Faculty of Architecture. I came to study in Wroclaw from Technische Universität Dortmund, where I study spatial planning. I decided to go to Wrocław University of Science and Technology because I was interested in the curriculum and I’d heard that it’s one of the best technical universities in Poland. I’m very curious about my stay in Wroclaw, but I only came yesterday, so I haven't seen the city yet. I’ll surely go for a walk along the Odra River in the coming days.

obcokrajowcypwr_stud_hiszpania.jpgAna Sarabia from Spain - I came to Wrocław under the Erasmus+ programme to study IT at the Faculty of Computer Science and Management. I study at Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia in Murcia. I’m excited about my stay in Poland because for me this is not only my first visit to this country but also outside of Spain. My first impressions in Poland? It’s definitely colder than in Spain. I like the university campus and the city itself. I want to see as much as possible. Yesterday, with my boyfriend, I took a one-day trip to Poznań,  which let me learn my first words in Polish: „dwa bilety to Poznań”.

obcokrajowcypwr_stud_indie.jpgShyamal Gandhi from India – I came to study in Wroclaw from Ahmadabad, the capital of the Indian state of Gujarat. I decided to go to Poland after I’d heard many positive opinions from my university peers who studied here. At Wrocław University of Science and Technology, I’m starting my Master's degree in Electronics and Robotics. I’ve never been to Europe and I‘m very curious about what life here is like. Unfortunately, I can't say too much for now because I've just arrived.

obcokrajowcypwr_stud_nigeria.jpgYahayah Ibraheem Abiodun from Nigeria - I’m going to study Applied Mathematics at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. I decided to study in Wrocław because I’d heard that Wrocław University of Science and Technology is one of the best in the country. I’ve been in Poland for five months, and at the beginning, I attended a language course in Katowice, so I already know a few basic words in Polish. I like Wrocław and the University itself very much and even the weather isn’t so bad really.

obcokrajowcypwr_stud_indonezja.jpgMuhammad Sunma Wirayudha and Juni Noor Rohman from Indonesia - We came to Poland as beneficiaries of Ignacy Łukasiewicz scholarship programme. We’ve been here for a year and a half already and we’ve been on a crash course in the Polish language. At Wrocław University of Science and Technology, we’re going to do a second-cycle programme of Mechanical Engineering and Machine Construction. It was definitely worth coming here. At our university, we took part in building racing cars, with which we went to a competition organised in Japan, and constructions of this type are also being made at WUST. However, this is a much higher level, and that's why it was worth coming here. We don’t rule out looking for a job in Wrocław after we graduate because we’d like to stay in Poland. We very much like the architecture of Wroclaw, but the weather surprised us a bit because it was here that we saw snow for the first time.
