Nearly 200 scientists specialising in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and science will come to Wrocław Tech to take part in the Building Bridges conference (26-28 November, building H-14). Among others, Emmanuelle Charpentier, winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, has confirmed her participation. The conference is organised by Academia Europaea Wrocław Knowledgbe Hub.
The two-day conference includes a total of 21 plenary sessions and two panel discussions. Heino Falcke, author of pioneering research on black holes, and evolutionary geneticist Prof. Eske Willerslev, who will discuss his research on ancient populations of the Americas. Prof Monika Bello, curator and head of the art department at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research CERN, will also speak in Wrocław.
Emmanuelle Charpentier: ‘CRISPR-Cas9: Microbiology as a driver of innovation in medicine and agronomy’. The Nobel laureate will talk about her breakthrough discovery in genome editing, for which she was honoured by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 2020, together with US biologist Jennifer Doudna.
Emmanuelle Charpentier is a French microbiologist, biochemist and geneticist. Since 2018, she has headed the Max Planck Unit for Pathogen Science in Berlin. She is an honorary professor at Humboldt University.
Building Bridges is an annual scientific conference organised by Academia Europaea (AE), a non-governmental organisation of more than 5500 scientists from all over the world. The institution has been active since 1988 and its aim is to promote scientific research and to advise governments and international organisations on scientific issues.
The organiser of the 35th edition of Building Bridges is Academia Europaea Wrocław Knowledgbe Hub. The organisation is based in London.
