At our university, the International Workshop on Ultra-Wide Bandgap Materials and Devices (IWUMD 2025) is taking place. The special guest is Prof. Hiroshi Amano, laureate of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics.

The event, co-organized by the Department of Semiconductor Materials Engineering at the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology and the Łukasiewicz Research Network, brings together researchers, experts, and industry representatives from around the world. Together, they are discussing the future of materials and technologies based on ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors.

The opening session was attended by Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs, Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and the first lecture, entitled Remaining issues for the social implementation of AlGaN-based devices, was delivered by Prof. Hiroshi Amano. The IWUMD conference, held at the WUST Congress Center, runs until September 24.

The program includes keynote lectures, thematic sessions, invited and oral presentations, as well as interactive poster sessions covering a wide spectrum of innovative topics. In addition, participating companies are presenting their latest products and innovations to the scientific community.

This is the eighth edition of IWUMD. The event provides a unique platform for the research community to discuss the latest achievements in ultra-wide bandgap materials and devices.
