Can food bought at vending machines be warm, healthy, and tasty? It already can, thanks to students and graduates of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, who have developed an innovative machine serving warm food. The menu includes spring rolls, Russian dumplings, and Szechuan beef
Bistrobot, located in the entrance hall of building D-1, is a creation of the company Food Robotics, founded and co-developed by students and graduates of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Their prototype machine takes up to four minutes to prepare warm meals weighing 200 to 350 g, depending on the dish. According to Wojciech Jopek, coordinator of the project, the latest research shows that Poles are increasingly often eating out as it’s more convenient for them while saving their time. We’re, too, paying more and more attention to ingredients.
- Our idea combines all three factors, i.e. healthy food, convenience, and economy of time. Preparation of a meal takes only 3-4 minutes, and what you get is a dish typical of a restaurant, one without additives or taste boosters and made exclusively from fresh ingredients - says Wojciech Jopek.
The dishes taste is the responsibility of Łukasz Bularz, the chef with the Cracow based company Meating Point. The well-balanced dishes prepared by him undergo so-called shock freezing, and - until they are selected at the vending machine - are kept at the temperature of -20 degrees Celsius. When a customer chooses to buy a certain menu item, Bistrobot heats up and roasts the meal in a special hybrid heating chamber. Thanks to the application of this revolutionary gastronomy technology the meal retains its freshness and taste.
The menu comprises six items, but there could be as many as ten of these. Now diners can choose lasagne with meat, Szechuan beef, spring rolls, Russian dumplings, dumplings with meat filling, and burrito with meat. Each dish is served on eco-friendly trays and with wooden cutlery.
Soon, WUST will see more machines of this kind. More information about the Bistrobot device can be found on the website and Facebook profile.
