The foundation stone for the construction of the new sports hall has been laid at the campus of Wrocław University of Science and Technology in Chełmońskiego Street. The construction work is expected to be completed in July 2020, and the new hall will be available to students from the beginning of the academic year 2020/2021.
The tender for its construction was closed in December 2018, while the first works began in late January 2019. Some parts of the structure, including the foundations, have been completed, and the works on the reinforcement of walls and supports are in progress.
– The campus in Chełmońskiego Street has always been connected with the sports activities of students and employees of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and the new hall is the next stage of this place’s development. We are also planning to build a swimming pool and I hope that when its construction is completed, we will fully satisfy the needs of our academic community - said Professor Cezary Madryas, Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology at Tuesday's ceremony.
The development project has been divided into two stages. The first one will involve the development of a building housing basketball and volleyball courts, an administration section, locker rooms, and bathrooms. The stands will seat almost 230 fans, which will make it possible for the facility to house competitions of the Academic Championships of Poland. The second stage involves the construction of a smaller building with training rooms - a gym, a combat sports room, as well as a dance and fitness room with locker room and bathroom facilities. In addition, the development will include internal streets, car parks, and pavements.
The construction of the new hall is expected to be completed in July 2020. The facility will be commissioned at the beginning of the academic year 2020/2021.
