Professor Jacek Cichoń from WUST has been chosen the most popular lecturer by Wrocław students in a competition organised by the Academic Radio Luz. – Winning students’ appreciation is a complex process, but the most important thing is, I guess, the fact that students feel that I simply like them - said the winner
The poll named “A Mug for a Lecturer” was organised by Radio Luz for the sixth time already. For students of Wrocław’s universities, it’s an opportunity to recognise teachers who, apart from knowing how to perfectly pass on their knowledge, inspire students and show the understanding of what it’s like to be one.
This year, the winner of the largest number of votes - 3,089, the competition’s record, is Professor Jacek Cichoń from the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology. The second place was taken by Zygmunt Domagała, PhD, of the University of Medicine in Wrocław, with 2,592 votes, while Professor Piotr Drożdżewski from the Faculty of Chemistry of WUST was ranked third with 1,729 votes.
– I’m very happy with this distinction. Winning students’ appreciation is a complex process, but the most important thing is, I guess, the fact that students feel I simply like them. If I’m giving a lecture for students of physics or informatics, they know that it’s tailored especially for them. Of course, we talk the most during and after our classes, but I’m very much in touch with them, too, during my office hours and when they’re writing their theses - said Professor Cichoń on a Radio Luz programme. The winner received flowers, congratulations, as well as a Radio Luz mug as a keepsake.
The winner of the first two editions of the competition was Adam Sieradzki, PhD from the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology, who was honoured by the organisers with a special golden mug in 2015. Two years ago, the largest number of votes went to Professor Jan Miodek, the popular linguist from the University of Wrocław, while last year the award was received by Jerzy Kotowski, PhD from WUST’s Faculty of Electronics.
