Prof. Szymon Malinowski: Planetary crisis

Prof. Szymon Malinowski - a chairman of the Climate Crisis Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences – was the guest of the Interdisciplinary Scientific Seminar at WUST. He gave a lecture on January 16 at the PWr Congress Centre.

Prof. Szymon Malinowski graduated from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw (1982), then received a doctorate in natural sciences from the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1988). He has been a professor of earth sciences since 2008 and a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 2020.

He works on physics of clouds and precipitation, atmospheric turbulence, numerical modeling of atmospheric flows, attmospheric airborne measurements, remote sensing, scaling and nonlinear processes in the atmosphere.

Professor Szymon Malinowski is also involved in popularizing knowledge about the coming climate change. He is one of the founders of the portal naukaoklimacie.pl and co-author of the book "Nauka o klimacie" (published by Post Factum 2021).

During his lecture at the WUST, Prof. Malinowski answered the question: do we, as humanity, depend more on nature, or does nature depend on us? He also presented a synthetic view, based on physical knowledge, of how our planet functions.
