Professor Maurer works at the Graz University of Technology. He was born in 1941 in Vienna and studied mathematics at the city’s university. In 1965, he obtained the title of doctor of mathematical sciences. Also, he completed studies at the University of Calgary. Professor Maurer has worked as an academic teacher at universities in Germany, New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Brazil, and Canada.
He has devised many innovative solutions in the field of informatics, data collecting and processing, as well as the development of Internet networks and written 20 books and a few hundred articles, and received numerous prestigious awards. Professor Maurer belongs to a number of organisations and associations, including Academia Europaea. He holds the title of doctor honoris causa conferred by the Technical University of St. Petersburg and the universities of Karlsruhe and Calgary.
In his research work, he has dealt with subjects including computer-supported new media applications and techniques of combating plagiarism. Currently, he is working on network multimedia systems applied in the fields of culture and education, integration of information, and social consequences of the advancement of informatics.
Professor Maurer was visiting Wrocław University of Science and Technology on Tuesday, June 12.
