Consul Zeev Baran - The Historical Coexistence of Poles and Jews and the Challenge of Reconciliation
On October 23, Zeev Baran, an architect and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Jerusalem, delivered a lecture entitled “The Historical Coexistence of Poles and Jews and the Challenge of Reconciliation”
Apart from being an architect, Zeev Baran has been for many years active as an educator in Israel and abroad. One of the main purposes of his work is to promote Poland in Jerusalem and contribute to the dialogue and cooperation between our nations.
Zeev Baran was born in Vilnius in 1935. He and some members of his family survived the Holocaust thanks to the help they received from the couple Helena and Bronisław Krzyżanowscy. After the war, he, his mother, and his brother immigrated to France and reached Israel in 1948, when the country was fighting for its independence.
In 1963, Zeev Baran completed his architecture and urban planning degree programmes at the Technical University of Haifa. Having worked for a few years in France, he started an architecture studio in Jerusalem. He and his team specialise in selective projects as well as architectural undertakings in developing countries and for minorities in Israel. Parallel to his professional work has been Zeev Baran’s educational activity in Israel and abroad. In 1999, he was appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Jerusalem and in 2013 - the General Honorary Consul.
