The scientist from the Faculty of Architecture of Wrocław University of Science and Technology has been recognised by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of Germany, for his contribution to the protection of the industrial heritage of Silesia.
The ceremony of awarding the Cross of Merit on the Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to Piotr Gerber, PhD took place at the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany. The award was presented to the architect from Wrocław University of Science and Technology by Hans Jorg Neumann, Consul General of Germany in Wrocław.
The Order was awarded by the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier in recognition of his contribution to the protection, research, conversation, and restoration of the industrial heritage of Silesia.
The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Verdienstorden der BundesrepublikDeutschland), commonly referred to as the Union Cross of Merit, is a German state award for civil merit - the only order of the Federal Republic of Germany awarded by the federal authorities.
Piotr Gerber, PhD, Arch, is a graduate of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, an architect and doctor of technical sciences. Employed at the Faculty of Architecture of Wrocław University of Science and Technology since 1983, he works as an assistant professor at the Department of History of Architecture, Art, and Technology. Author of over 70 Polish and international scientific publications, including monographs and encyclopaedias on hospital service, the history of technology, and the protection of industrial heritage. Educator delivering own-designed courses in the following fields: the design and modernisation of hospitals, the history of technology, the protection of industrial heritage, as well as the design of industrial facilities.
Piotr Gerber, PhD is an expert in health care management and a specialist in the area of the modernisation and design of hospital facilities. Founder of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Industrial Heritage of Silesia.
He is a member of WUST’s first Council of the University, established by the Senate of Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
