Master’s Thesis Competition – Applied Mathematics

Wroclaw University of Technology and global investments company BNY Mellon mutually organize competition for the best master thesis in field of applied mathematics. Main prize is 15 thousand PLN. Laureate will be known at the end of the year

To participate in the competition, we invite all students of Polish universities who in the years 2017-2018 write or will write a master's thesis in applied mathematics, in which they will solve problems related to financial mathematics or financial engineering.

The jury will be composed of representatives of the University, associated with the Center of Hugo Steinhaus and representatives of BNY Mellon.  The competition is sponsored by BNY Mellon Science, the strategic centre of excellence for quantitative and analytical work focused on risk management across BNY Mellon globally.

They will evaluate the submitted works in terms of the originality of the idea, mathematical correctness and the possibility of applying the solutions proposed by the students in practice.

Eventually, the best three works will be awarded, and the main prize for the winner is 15 thousand PLN (The next places are 10 and 5 thousand PLN respectively). Announcement of results in November 2018.

Your work, written or translated into English, can be submitted to the competition after 30th May 2018. Instructions for how to submit your Master’s Thesis will be announced on the competition website.

The competition is the first effect of a cooperation agreement signed in 2017 by both institutions. This agreement is a great opportunity for our University and students - explains prof. Aleksander Weron from the Wroclaw University of Technology. We started cooperation with global investments company BNY Mellon the, which opens up completely new opportunities for students, especially those learning mathematics. But the goal of the competition is much broader and we want to motivate all students in Poland to put even more effort into their learning, so that they get better results and fight for the most prestigious awards.
